Virgil van Dijk spotted laying into Liverpool teammate four times during Man United draw

Liverpool were held at home by Manchester United and while a point was a fair result, it’s fair to say Virgil van Dijk was far from happy with one of his teammates during the game.

Van Dijk looked on course to be leading his team to another big win when Mo Salah scored from the spot but in the end, Amad Diallo nicked the draw for United after getting ahead of Andy Robertson.

Diallo’s goal came from the right-hand side and that position was a problem all day long for the Reds.

Trent Alexander-Arnold had one his worse games for a while as Diogo Dalot caused him issues all day, while Alejandro Garnacho tormented him when he came on as well.

Indeed, Arne Slot even took Alexander-Arnold off, bringing Conor Bradley on in his place.

However, prior to Alexander-Arnold getting the hook, it’s safe to say that captain Van Dijk was far from impressed.

Virgil van Dijk berates Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool draw with Man United

For those watching with an eagle eye on the game, it was as clear as day that Van Dijk was getting increasingly annoyed with Alexander-Arnold.

The Dutchman had hammered the right-back late in the second half for allowing United in behind.

Going into the second period, things remained the same, and it was in he 61st minute that Van Dijk once again laid into Alexander-Arnold after seeing the full-back allow another run in behind.

Then, just prior to the goal, Alexander-Arnold once again let Garnacho in behind, with Van Dijk having to bail out his teammate and being visibly annoyed.

Finally, in the 80th minute, as Diallo tucked home, Van Dijk once again lost his cool with Alexander-Arnold as he appeared to slam him for being out of position as Bruno Fernandes played Garnacho into space.

With Real Madrid trying to sign Alexander-Arnold, his performance today will leave some fans – and potentially teammates like Van Dijk – wondering if the distraction is causing issues.

With such a poor display, it will be interesting to see if this is something that plays out and continues or was simply a one-off for one of the best right-backs in the world.
