Villa loanee reportedly told to leave for good, should Leeds consider Bielsa reunion?
Anwar El Ghazi has reportedly been told that he has to leave parent club Lille OSC this summer on a permanent basis, despite his impressive form at Aston Villa. But could Marcelo Bielsa get involved?
23-year-old El Ghazi will be offloaded by Lille this summer, as he has been deemed surplus to requirements. This summer, he will leave Lille permanently.
He has impressed for Villa. He has scored five goals in all competitions, as well as adding six assists in his 32 league and cup appearances. Perhaps not as consistent as Villa fans would like, he has certainly shown glimpses of quality.
El Ghazi played under Bielsa for Lille, when the Argentine boss managed the Ligue 1 side during the first half of the 2017-18 campaign. He played 17 times under the former Lazio manager.
Signed from Ajax just before Bielsa arrived, the two-time Netherlands international put pen to paper on a £6million move from the Dutch club (). But he has only managed 44 appearances in all competitions since.
So, should Leeds consider looking to beat Villa and form a reunion with Bielsa at Elland Road?
After Sunday’s clash, the love is not likely to be there between Bielsa and Villa. El Ghazi was unfairly given a red card, and that is likely to be repealed after Patrick Bamford went down theatrically.
But Leeds need a winger, one with plenty of pace and trickery. The failure to sign Daniel James in January, combined with Jack Harrison struggling and Jack Clarke still only 18 years of age, means a winger is required.
El Ghazi could be that man. Lille look as though they are willing to offload El Ghazi to any interested parties. Bielsa would surely have an upper hand given that it is one of his former players, from his former side.
