Video: Pontus Jansson watches Leeds tie after saluting fans

Pontus Jansson may now be playing for a promotion rival, but there is no question that the centre-back remains an incredibly popular figure amongst the large majority of the Leeds United fanbase.

Jansson quickly became a cult-hero after arriving at Elland Road. And for some time, he looked destined to be the stalwart set to help lead the Whites to the Premier League.

However, Marcelo Bielsa decided to let the Sweden international leave the club in the summer. Perhaps the biggest surprise surrounding Jansson’s departure was not that he was allowed to leave, but that he was given the green light to join Brentford.

The Bees are one side who look destined to always be in the Championship promotion discussion until the year everything clicks and they take that next step.

Looking at the current table, this year may be that year.

Thomas Frank’s men are third and boast the best defensive record in the league. And Jansson has taken little time to become the man who wears the captain’s armband.

But the Championship promotion race was put to one side on Monday night as Leeds took on Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.

And Jansson showed that his feelings for his former club remain as a video emerged on social media showing the defender in the stands at the Emirates to watch the tie.

And Jansson delighted the fans by responding to their calls for a salute. The video can be watched from the tweet below…
