Video: 22-year-old youngster wins sprint race in Leeds training right in front of Marsch

New Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has been putting his players through their paces ahead of their Premier League meeting with Leicester.

The Whites have been in poor form over the past few weeks, prompting the Elland Road board to make a change in the dugout.

Leeds parted company with Marcelo Bielsa last Sunday and appointed Marsch as their new manager on Monday.

The Whites are currently 16th in the Premier League table, just two points above the bottom three.

So it’s crucial that Marsch hits the ground running at Elland Road, starting with Saturday’s trip to the Midlands.

On Wednesday, Leeds uploaded footage of a training session overseen by the 48-year-old at Thorp Arch.

During the session, Marsch held several sprint races amongst his players.

In one of them (40 seconds in), Jamie Shackleton can be seen winning pretty convincingly.

The 22-year-old hasn’t featured regularly for Bielsa this season – he has just seven league starts to his name in 2021-22.

However, Marsch’s preferred 4-2-2-2 formation, with two holding midfield players, offers Shackleton an additional opportunity.

And his impressive pace – Leeds fans have previously lauded how quick he is – is another big asset the new manager could make use of.

Under Marsch, there could also be a big change in terms of how Leeds play out of possession.

Bielsa’s pressing philosophy was man-marking, while Marsch focuses on ‘‘ pressing.
