Victor Orta shares Leeds plan for Ian Poveda after loan move

Victor Orta that Ian Poveda is expected to return to the fold next season after sealing a loan move on Monday.

Poveda has joined Blackburn Rovers for the season. It is a move that may have surprised some following a campaign in which he made 14 appearances from the bench for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the Premier League.

However, Poveda has not featured for the first-team or under-23s so far this term. So a move away, in some capacity, always looked likely.

And it has now been confirmed that he will spend this campaign at Ewood Park. He becomes the second player in as many years to swap Leeds for Blackburn, following Barry Douglas’s loan last term.

Of course, leaving on loan can be an ominous sign for a player at Leeds.

No player seems to have returned to the fold and kicked on following a spell out on loan since Bielsa arrived.

So some may fear that Poveda’s long-term future lies elsewhere.

However, Orta has already suggested that Leeds expect the winger to be back with them next year.

“We feel Ian can make an impact here in the future and we’ve been very impressed with how Blackburn have developed players such as Harvey Elliott at Liverpool,” .

“We hope Ian can get some game time and come back to us next season ready to fight.”

Orta comments hint Poveda may not have already made his last appearance for Leeds after loan exit

Obviously, Orta was never going to suggest that Poveda was done at Leeds. But if there was a sense that his time at the club was over, surely the Spaniard would just avoid providing any sort of comment.

It is still imperative that Poveda does well while away. Leeds have two outstanding wingers in Raphinha and Jack Harrison.

But it does appear that the door remains open for the 21-year-old should he prove a success while away.
