Victor Anichebe reacts as Everton announce signing of Andros Townsend on a free

Everton have announced the free transfer of Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace. The England international was one of a huge list of players to leave the London side at the end of his contract earlier this summer. Victor Anichebe has given his instant verdict to Everton landing Townsend.

Townsend, 30, joins Everton after five years at Palace – in which the Tottenham academy product clocked up 185 appearances. Of course, eagle-eyed supporters will know that Townsend played under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle. It was Benitez that then sold him to Palace, after relegation.

Now, he joins an Everton side on a two-year deal – with Benitez keen to add depth on the flanks. Demarai Gray of Bayer Leverkusen is also expected to join the club for a bargain £1.5million – with Leverkusen eyeing Sheyi Ojo as his replacement.

What has Anichebe said about Everton signing Townsend?

Anichebe gave an instant reaction on his former side’s Instagram post. While some have questioned the move to bring in Townsend, a player that some believe is past his best, others have applauded his ability to offer depth and Premier League experience. Anichebe is happy with Townsend.
