‘Very, very good’… Roy Keane says 25-year-old midfielder could easily play for Arsenal

Roy Keane has given his verdict on Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz amid speculation that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to sign him in the January transfer window.

The Manchester United legend has outlined what makes Luiz such a special player and has said whether he is good enough to play for Arsenal.

So, what has Roy Keane said about Douglas Luiz? Let’s take a look.

Arsenal linked with Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz

Well, Arsenal have been linked with a move to Aston Villa and Brazil international midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The Gunners are reportedly on the hunt for a new midfielder, and one of the players on the radar of the North London club is Luiz.

reported in December 2023 that Arsenal are keen on signing Luiz in January.

Earlier this month, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said on that Arsenal staff rate the former Manchester City player highly and think that he is “among the most interesting midfielders in the world at the moment”.

Roy Keane’s verdict on Douglas Luiz

Roy Keane is one of the greatest midfielders of all time. The Sky Sports pundit is a Manchester United and Premier League legend, and he has been hugely impressed by Douglas Luiz.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that the 25-year-old Brazil international midfielder is good enough to play for Arsenal, Manchester United or even Manchester City.

Keane said about Luiz on (1:45 pm, January 14, 2024), as transcribed by : “He turns up every week this player. Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.

“I think he was linked with Arsenal last year. There are no surprises there, with some of the Villa players, you think they can certainly go on to play for a Man United, Arsenal or even Man City, you look at Watkins.

“But I like Luiz. He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe. In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball. Very, very good.”

Arsenal may be keen on Luiz, but I do not see Villa selling him in the January transfer window.

After all, the Villans are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League, and manager Unai Emery will surely not want to sell one of his best players in the middle of the season, especially to his former club Arsenal.

Luiz has made 20 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored six goals and given three assists in those games.
