‘Very good’: Ashley Young has raved about ‘ambitious’ Aston Villa man, he’s got an aura about him
Aston Villa are preparing for Southampton’s visit to Villa Park tomorrow as they look to move away from the relegation zone.
Young talked about a number of topics, including the decision to sign a one-year contract extension at the end of last season.
“I played with him as a player, and he’s got that same ambitious way as a manager.”
“I think he’s spoken to, as I still call him, ‘The Boss’, Sir Alex (Ferguson), so I’d say he’s taken little bits and pieces from them – but he’s got his own ways as well.

“He knows how to deal with the players in the right way, whether they need an arm around them or a subtle telling off.
“His man-management skills are very good.
“At times you can laugh and joke, but when it’s training, it’s serious and that’s when it’s down to business.
“He’s got that aura about him, which he of course had as a player, and he’s now got that as a manager as well.
“He’s an ambitious person; he knows where he believes he can take the club to, and I think all the players have bought into that, and know that we can get higher and higher up the table.”
Young raves about Gerrard as a manager
Steven Gerrard’s start at Aston Villa has been fine without setting the world alight.
He led the Villains to a 14th place finish in the Premier League after taking over from Dean Smith in November.
Although their performances on the pitch weren’t fantastic, Gerrard did establish young star Jacob Ramsey in his starting line-up.

He’s also overseen some sensible transfer this summer, with Boubacar Kamara in particular buying into his project.
Gerrard was unfortunate to lose Diego Carlos to injury after relying on the centre-back to lead his defence.
Young is keen to rave about Gerrard as his manager, given their history as England teammates and his role as a leader at the club.
