‘Very close’… Rangers player set to sign for third-placed club on a free, he will move this summer
Borna Barisic is one of a number of Rangers stars that are out of contract at Ibrox this summer, and now it is being claimed the Croatian is set to sign a pre-contract deal with Turkish side Trabzonspor.
The 31-year-old is closing in on six years at Rangers after joining the club in Steven Gerrard‘s first year. He has gone on to play 230 times for Rangers in all competitions, having a hand in 64 goals in that time.
But now, Barisic – once by Gerrard in 2019 – is out of contract at the end of the season. Rangers had been desperate for him to sign a new deal, with Nottingham Forest looking.
Barisic has been regularly linked with a move away from Rangers – even Gerrard is said to have wanted to lure him to Villa. Of late, the Croatia star lost his place in Rangers’ starting XI under Philippe Clement.
Ridvan Yilmaz has come into the side over Barisic. A new deal looks unlikely then, and now say that Barisic – who was a target for third-placed Turkish side Trabzonspor in the past – is close to signing.

A move to a Turkish side that boast the likes of former Arsenal man Nicolas Pepe, and Filip Benkovic – who once spent time on loan at Glasgow rivals Celtic. A fellow countryman, to Barisic. He is set to leave.
Miles off the top two but sitting in a comfortable third place, Barisic could be joining a side that book their place in the Europa League group stage this season. You would imagine he’d be first choice there.
Given his contractual situation, Barisic is now set for a move to Turkey and join a side that are often fighting for a League title and are in Europe. A good move that suits Barisic, moving forward.
