Verdict given on Arsenal potentially signing Evan Ferguson from Brighton as reason to be ‘sceptical’ shared
Arsenal have been linked with so many strikers during this January transfer window.
Dusan Vlahovic was an Arsenal target earlier this month, Arsenal have been linked with Jonathan David, while Igor Jesus to Arsenal appeared possible at one point.
Evan Ferguson is a player whose future is up in the air right now.
Ferguson isn’t getting much gametime at Brighton, and, interestingly, Arsenal have been linked with Ferguson.
However, according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, this deal isn’t likely.
Indeed, the journalist says that he’s sceptical about this rumour, because he’d always been told that Arsenal were going to sign a player who was a definite upgrade if they dipped into the market to sign a new striker.

Evan Ferguson to Arsenal is unlikely
Jones shared what he knows about Ferguson and Arsenal after recent links.
The journalist says he’s not sure that this deal is likely after what he’s recently been told by his sources.
“Whether that ends up being a loan or a permanent, we’ll have to see. Arsenal have also been linked with Evan Ferguson. Unlikely, various reasons, but they don’t even have a loan spot available at the moment domestically.
“I can’t see them going for a player that has, one, had a reasonably serious ankle injury recently. Two, is extremely young and untested at the very top level. He’s had two Premier League starts and two Carabao Cup starts.
“I don’t really think that that’s what Arsenal need right now. I’m not saying that Evan Ferguson couldn’t be good enough to fill that role for Arsenal. I think on a permanent, that would seem just not what they need right now.
“I’ve always been told that they are going to sign somebody that is definitely a level up on what they’ve got so far. I would be slightly sceptical of that./p>
Evan Ferguson compared to Kai Havertz
Jones says that he’s been told that Arsenal want to upgrade on what they already have, and, unfortunately, Ferguson isn’t that player.
Indeed, the stats show that Ferguson isn’t as good as what Arsenal already have up front.
Statistically, Kai Havertz is outperforming Ferguson by some distance.
Kai Havertz this season | Evan Ferguson this season | |
Games | 20 | 12 |
Goals | 8 | 1 |
Assists | 2 | 0 |
Of course, at the age of just 20, Ferguson has plenty of room to grow and improve, but Arsenal aren’t a team with time on their side.
Indeed, Arsenal are lagging behind in the Premier League title race right now, and they need someone who can make an impact this season.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
1 | 22 | 16 | 5 | 1 | 54 | 21 | 33 | 53 | |
2 | 23 | 13 | 8 | 2 | 44 | 21 | 23 | 47 |
After just one Premier League goal in the last 12 months, it’s fair to say that Ferguson isn’t the type of player who will turn the tide for Arsenal and help them make up the ground they need to on Liverpool.
