The Italian is claiming that despite initiating contact, talks are not yet advanced.

Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag are also being considered, but, both are considered ‘complicated’.

It moves on from three failed moves from Spurs in their hunt for a new manager.

TBR View: Valverde could well be a disastrous manager appointment after Barcelona failures

Valverde struggled massively during his time with the La Liga outfit in what was an underwhelming state of affairs.

His struggles ranged from failing to play attractive football to question marks over various managerial qualities.

What makes it even more stark, it the vast amounts of talent that was at his disposal.

It wasn’t like Valverde was hamstrung by a financial crisis. Over was spent on transfers, during his time with Barcelona.

Spurs are in the midst of a rebuild after two seasons without Champions League. And after a year of no fans inside grounds, there is a lack of money readily available.

There won’t be hundreds of millions to spend on transfers.

Aside from his struggles with a talented squad, he also faced questions on the playing style during his time at the Nou Camp.

It was claimed the 57-year-old relied far too heavily on individuals like Lionel Messi and Andre ter Stegen to save the side.

On the face of it, appointing Valverde as manager would be a horrible decision from Tottenham. If he struggled with an expensively assembled squad at Barcelona, what will happen when he manages an average side likes Spurs.
