Vaclav Hladky concedes five after discussing Rangers interest

Vaclav Hladky may have caught many off-guard last week when he suggested, , that he had already held talks with Rangers about a potential move to Ibrox ahead of next summer.

Hladky is out of contract at St Mirren at the end of the season, and it appears that the Gers are one of the teams monitoring his situation. Interestingly however, he admitted that his goal was to go and play in the Premier League (via ).

Unsurprisingly, plenty of Rangers fans appeared to be pleased about the links. Despite St Mirren sitting bottom of the Scottish Premiership, they went into the weekend with the third best defensive record in the division.

Only Rangers and Celtic had conceded fewer goals than Hladky, who had let in just 11 in as many games.

Unfortunately, Hladky’s first game since making those comments has probably not helped his cause as he looks to earn a high-profile move.

Bad day at the office

St Mirren were beaten 5-2 at struggling Hearts. Admittedly, Hladky made a couple of excellent saves and could have done little about some of the goals. He also contributed an assist when his long ball found its way through to Daniel Mullen.

But the 28-year-old will surely feel that he should have better for two of the goals. He seemed to over-commit in the build-up to Sean McLoughlin’s own goal.

Hladky also got a good hand to Oliver Bozanic’s close-range header. So he will perhaps be disappointed that the ball still managed to find its way across the line.

Of course, one performance does not change the fact that Hladky is one of the best in the Scottish Premiership. But he arguably put more pressure on himself with his comments about his future.

And in the first test since those comments, he conceded the same number of goals that he let in during the entirety of October.
