USA media give verdict and rating after Brenden Aaronson display

Brenden Aaronson was handed one of following the Leeds United star’s performance in the USA’s goalless draw with Uruguay on Sunday, with the youngster praised for bringing a spark to the game.

The 21-year-old scored the opener in the 3-0 win against Morocco earlier this month. However, he was left on the bench for the clash with the South American side in Kansas City.

Aaronson would come on at the break with the home side still looking for the opening goal. Ultimately, it would prove to be a frustrating afternoon for the USMNT.

The game would end goalless. And it was a difficult time for several of the USA’s attacking players. But Aaronson was praised, with only two players earning a higher rating than the 6 Aaronson received.

“The Leeds-bound man once again played in a central midfield (No. 8) role, and once again brought a spark and an edge to the match that had been previously lacking. Aaronson had the right ideas in possession, and showed a grit that will serve him well in the Premier League,” .

CBS Sports meanwhile, were a little more critical of the Leeds new boy – while giving him the same rating. They felt that Uruguay did an excellent job of keeping the attacking midfielder out of the game.

“Was marked out of the game entering in central midfield on Sunday. While Aaronson can play there, against stronger teams like Uruguay, Berhalter will need to see how he can keep him on the wing,” .

Brenden Aaronson rating a promising sign for Leeds

It is hard to be too critical of how any player fares on international duty in this window, particularly in friendlies. Of course, the players take great pride in representing their country. But Aaronson is coming off a campaign in which he played 40 times for Red Bull Salzburg.

Leeds fans will take encouragement from Aaronson showing grit. And they will be excited that he did bring the spark.

Uruguay are one of the better teams in the world right now. So a draw against them is a respectable result.

And Aaronson has shown more promising signs ahead of his first pre-season at Elland Road.
