‘Unplayable’… Paul Merson amazed by £50m midfielder Arsenal reportedly want to sign this week

Arsenal have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze in recent months, and he continues to go from strength to strength for his club.

In November, reported that the Gunners are one of numerous clubs tracking the England international progress at Selhurst Park.

Arsenal could certainly do with bolstering their midfield ranks, either this month or in the summer.

And Eze is one of the best players currently playing outside of the Premier League’s traditional big six.

The 25-year-old scored a brace on Tuesday as his club ran out 3-2 winners over Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Eze’s efforts – both assisted by the similarly impressive Michael Olise – helped Palace go six points of the bottom three.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson, speaking on on transfer deadline day, sung the reported Gunners target’s praises for how he did in midweek.

“If they get Eze and Olise on the pitch they have zero chance of going down,” he said.

“If they didn’t play again this season, which they will, they would be relegated. It’s honestly – the two of them in midweek were unplayable. They were brilliant.

“When they are on the pitch together they are a joy to watch and they will give anyone a game when they are fit, Palace.”

Arsenal target Eberechi Eze has a bright future ahead of him

You can’t help but wonder whether Arsenal are kicking themselves after Eze from their academy when he was younger, only to see him develop into a star.

Meanwhile, Palace struck gold when they signed Eze from Queens Park Rangers for just  in 2020. He has become an outstanding player and has a really bright future ahead of him.

While a January move would be very hard for Arsenal to pull off for Eze – who Chris Wilder speculated could be worth more than £50million – let’s see what happens over the course of the season.

If Palace begin struggling again, there will no doubt be clubs looking to take Eze off their hands. However, he’s certainly doing his bit to ensure that’s not the case.
