‘Unmistakable’ Guardiola-like manager who reportedly spoke to Spurs has found work elsewhere

A manager linked with Tottenham Hotspur who reportedly spoke to Spurs has now officially found work elsewhere.

reported last week that Tottenham had held talks with Hansi Flick, who in turn appeared open to a move to N17.

A few weeks ago, The Telegraph claimed that the 56-year-old was “thought to be interested in the Spurs post.”

However, Flick’s future has now been settled and, as many expected, he has penned a contract with the Germany national team, and will take the reins after Euro 2020.

Flick, an assistant to current head coach Joachim Low until 2014, led Bayern Munich to six trophies in the 2019-20 season.

He also won this season’s Bundesliga, but has decided to leave the German champions after 18 months in charge.

Flick has signed a contract until Euro 2024, which will be held in Germany.

He is quoted by as saying: “I am very happy to be able to work as national coach from autumn onwards.

“I’m really looking forward to it because I can see the great quality of the players, especially the young players in Germany.

“That’s why we have every reason to approach the upcoming tournaments with optimism.”

TBR View:

Disappointing but certainly not surprising to see Flick commit his future to the German national team despite flickers of hope that Spurs could swoop in and bring him to north London.

“He’s not only a great coach, he’s also a great person,” Robert Lewandowski told BILD, as quoted by the Bundesliga .

Meanwhile, Thomas Muller told Suddeutsche Zeitung – via the Bundesliga : “The coach’s thumbprint is unmistakable… the last time we were so well drilled was under Pep Guardiola.”

However, with another candidate now crossed off the shortlist, Daniel Levy’s search for a new manager will continue.
