‘Unless the stance changes’… Phil Hay says Leeds may have no chance of signing £17m player
Leeds United need a new right-back.
After both Luke Ayling and Djed Spence departed earlier this month, the Whites are incredibly short in that position as things stand.
Luckily, the transfer window is open and there is scope for Leeds to bring in a few players in the coming days.
One player that Leeds have been linked with recently is Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams.
Speaking on , Phil Hay has shared an update on how the ground lies with Williams, and unfortunately, he doesn’t have good news to share.
Indeed, according to Hay, Neco Williams is not available, and unless the stance on Forest’s end changes, he can’t see Leeds getting this deal over the line.

Williams not likely to be headed to Leeds
Hay shared what he knows about the player.
“It’s not much of a secret who Leeds have been looking at particularly at right-back. Neco Williams at Forest is not available, Nuno doesn’t want to lose him, so even though you like him a lot the chances of getting him are pretty much nil unless the stance changes,” Hay said.
Shame
This is a massive shame as it feels as though this is a move that would suit all parties.
Williams is a fantastic player at Championship level who would really help Leeds, and he’s also be guaranteed regular minutes.
On top of that, he’d also be joining his international teammates, Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and Joe Rodon at Elland Road, so it wouldn’t be too difficult at all for him to settle in.
Unfortunately, it seems as though Forest are keen to keep hold of Williams, and Leeds may have to look elsewhere in order to solve their current right-back dilemma.
Who Leeds ultimately end up bringing in remains to be seen, but they need a new signing in this position, that’s for sure.
