‘Underrated’: Some Leeds fans amazed by 21-year-old’s display v Real Betis
Leeds United suffered a narrow defeat in a pre-season game with Real Betis on Saturday – and some Whites fans on Twitter were left raving about the performance of their player Jamie Shackleton.
Leeds were beaten 3-2 against their Spanish opposition, with goals from Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich not enough for a result. However, it was an amazing workout for the squad.
The contest at the Loughborough stadium was prepared as a friendly, but it was extremely competitive with a few questionable tackles.
Marcelo Bielsa’s group are edging closer towards full match fitness as they close in on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The Yorkshire club finish pre-season against Ajax and Villarreal before the first league game away to Manchester United on 14 August.

Jamie Shackleton can take next step
For Leeds-born youngster Shackleton, he’s made his way from the academy to the first-team squad to great effect in the past couple of years.
The 21-year-old talent ended up making 15 senior appearances last season across all competitions, but surely he’ll be hoping to pump those numbers up.
He’s a central midfielder by trade that is relentless with his work rate in the middle of the park. However, he showed some excellent form against Real Betis at right-back.
The youngster has the versatility to drop in at full-back, so perhaps it’s a way he can play more under Bielsa in the new season.
He can be optimistic about his chances due to his pre-season work.
