‘Underrated performance’: Manchester City fans praise Riyad Mahrez for Dortmund display

Manchester City won out against Borussia Dortmund last night thanks to a late Phil Foden goal which ensured a 2-1 lead to take to Germany.

City were far from their very best but had enough on the night to see off Dortmund, who had Erlin Haaland on show in a what could be a trial run for the Norwegian ahead of the summer.

A number of City players did put in good performances, in fairness. Kevin De Bruyne was great once again, while Ruben Dias handled Haaland well at the back in the main.

But it was the efforts of Riyad Mahrez that caught the eye of some City fans on social media. Despite not scoring again in Europe, Mahrez did help himself to an assist and showed his class at times with moments of quality.

Twitter, then, was awash with comments praising the Algerian winger, with some City fans believing Mahrez put in a performance that slipped under the radar somewhat.
