‘Underrated’ – Liverpool fans have their say on Alex McCarthy transfer rumours
Liverpool reportedly want Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. , Liverpool are lining up a move to bring McCarthy to Anfield as Alisson Becker’s back-up.
Simon Mignolet could be heading out of the exit door at Liverpool this summer. So Jurgen Klopp needs to find himself a new number 2 goalkeeper.
McCarthy fits the bill given his Premier League experience. He has 66 top-flight games to his name. The once-capped England international would also improve the homegrown quota in Liverpool’s squad.
Southampton could be willing to let McCarthy leave after he lost his goalkeeper spot. Angus Gunn is Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first-choice and McCarthy is not content with being second-choice on the south coast.
Liverpool could offer him the chance to provide cover for Alisson and get the occasional cup game under his belt. This could appeal to the 29-year-old, who will be hoping to regain a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad.
