‘Unbelievable’: Virgil van Dijk shares what he learned about Celtic that ‘nobody really realises’
Virgil van Dijk has said he did not realise what a huge club Celtic are until he actually played for them.
Van Dijk was interviewed by Gary Neville on the and was asked about his career, including his time at Celtic Park.
He said it took for him to play for the Hoops before he realised how big the club are and bemoaned that not enough people realise the scale of their appeal.

He said: “Being able to go from FC Gronigen to Celtic was big in the end.
“Because I played for one of the biggest clubs in the world, which nobody really realises in my opinion.
“I didn’t realise as much before I joined, but when I joined it was unbelievable.
“Playing Champions League first season – Barcelona, AC Milan, played against Ajax.
“I won two league trophies and a cup. All these things, the experience, made me ready for the Premier League. It was the right path that I took.”
Celtic have just been eliminated from the Champions League but they had a go in every game, dominating matches for large periods.
They just were not clinical enough but fared better than Rangers and looked more likely to be on the right track with their approach.
Their fanbase also drew attention and plaudits from across Europe for their support of the team and will hope for better fortunes in Europe next season.
