‘Unbelievable’… Paul Merson says striker Arsenal signed for £8m was better than Thierry Henry
Arsenal have had some truly amazing strikers during the Premier League era.
The likes of Ian Wright, Robin van Persie and even Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were all fantastic players, but, without a doubt, Thierry Henry is the pick of the bunch.
𝔍The Frenchman was absolutely dynamite for Arsenal during his time in north London, and there’s an argument to make that he’s the best Premier League player of all-time.
However, speaking on the , Paul Merson has actually named another Arsenal striker who he thought was better than Henry.
Indeed, Merson says that Dennis Bergkampꦑ was a better player than Henry due to the fact he believed the Frenchman was too reliant on his pace.

Bergkamp better than Henry
Merson spoke about the two strikers.
🥂“I’ve gone with him as the number one because I’m not sure Henry would’ve been that great with Bergkamp’s pace, Henry was electric, cool at finishing, but his pace got him away from players to get in that position. That was the only reason I picked Dennis Bergkamp, if you gave them the same pace who would be the best, and that’s why I’ve just gone with him, people will watch this and say you’ve picked two Arsenal players, but I had to pick the number one because I played with him and he was unbelievable,” Merson said.
More technical
𓄧These two are, undoubtedly, two of the very best players the Premier League has ever seen, but if you’re stripping it back to just technical ability, Bergkamp has the edge here.
🉐As an all-round player, Henry was the total package due to his strength, pace and movement, but Bergkamp could run a game without moving more than 10 yards or breaking a sweat.
🅰His first touch was perhaps the best of any player in history, while his ability to think on his feet was incredible too.
𝓡The Henry vs Bergkamp debate will rage on forevermore, but, regardless of who you prefer, it has to be said that Bergkamp was world-class, and at he was one of the best signings in Premier League history.
