‘Unbelievable’ midfielder is now a real option for Newcastle United in January, he’s barely played this season – journalist

Newcastle United is now a real option for Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek in January.

Donny Van de Beek’s move to Manchester United has been nothing short of a disaster.

The 25-year-old has started just four league games for Manchester United in just over two seasons.

He was given an opportunity on loan at Everton for the second half of last season.

However, a lack of fitness and the Toffees fighting for their lives in the Premier League weren’t the ideal conditions for Van de Beek.

The midfield playmaker has managed just 22 minutes in the Premier League this season.

He finds himself out of favour with a third United manager, and now Newcastle is a real option for Van de Beek.

Jones: ‘Newcastle is one option for Van de Beek’

“Newcastle is one option. They want a central midfielder, still, and I think he might fit the bill.”

It’s hard to see right now where Van de Beek might fit into Newcastle’s side.

Eddie Howe’s midfield is relatively settled, with in form players struggling to get into the side.

Bruno Guimaraes has already made himself a Newcastle hero and was ‘different class’ at the weekend.

The Brazilian scored a brace, and was expertly partnered by Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock.

Fan favourite Joelinton also came off the bench after an injury layoff and will be fighting to start.

It’s hard to see where Van de Beek would fit into the side given his lack of game time and previous form.

Once described as an ‘unbelievable’ player, Van de Beek has 19 international caps and once contributed 10 goals and nine assists for Ajax in one season.

Van de Beek can be an effective deep playmaker, and would offer Newcastle a different option.

However, there could be a big price tag involved considering how much Manchester United originally paid for him.

Howe might be better off reigniting their interest in James Maddison, given his much superior form.
