‘Unbelievable’… Ledley King says midfielder Tottenham sold for £1m might’ve been more talented than Bale
Ledley King was lucky to play with some truly incredible players at Tottenham during his career.
The defender played with the likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Dimitar Berbatov during his storied career, but he’s named another player as the most talented footballer he’s ever worked with at Spurs.
Indeed, according to King, speaking on the , Adel Taarabt may well be the most talented player he’s ever worked with, claiming that he had an unbelievable natural ability, but, unfortunately, he never really knew how to use his skills.
Taarabt the most talented
King shared his verdict on the midfielder.
“Adel had unbelievable ability, Adel, he probably had the most ability of anyone I played with, but he didn’t know how to use it. He could put the ball through your legs no problem, not mine, I wasn’t training, but then he gave it away, so that part of his game was missing, but he had ability, he had some ability,” King said.
Could’ve been brilliant
We’ve heard this story so many times, but it’s worth noting just how brilliant Taarabt was on his day.
The Moroccan had incredible technical ability, his touch, awareness and skill was up there with the best of them, but his application, football IQ and workrate wasn’t quite up to scratch.
There’s a reason Tottenham sold Taarabt to QPR for at that point, he ultimately wasn’t good enough for their team, and, in the end, Taarabt would prove he was never really up to that standard as he struggled in the Premier League with both QPR and Fulham on a weekly basis despite what his highlight reel would have you believe.
Taarabt could’ve been a fantastic player with the right coaching, but, sadly, he never made it in the way he probably should have.
