‘Unbelievable’: BBC pundit was absolutely stunned by ‘brilliant’ Aston Villa player after first-half moment

BBC pundit Clinton Morrison was seriously impressed with Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne’s free-kick against Manchester United.

Leon Bailey scored the first goal of the Emery era in the first seven minutes, giving Villa a deserved lead.

Lisandro Martinez then gave away a free-kick in a dangerous area, as Villa continued to dominate the visitors.

Up stepped Lucas Digne and he’s dispatched the set piece past David De Gea in goal.

It’s Digne’s first goal of the season, and his second since joining Villa from Everton in January.

He’s had to deal with several injuries since arriving at Villa Park, but given his ability from set pieces, Emery will be hoping he can stay fit.

Morrison was clearly impressed by Digne’s effort, and couldn’t believe the atmosphere the Villa fans were creating.

Morrison seriously impressed with Digne free-kick

“It was a brilliant free-kick.

“Manchester United haven’t started and I don’t know if they can come back from this, being 2-0 down after 10 minutes because this place is erupting.

“The fans have been brilliant and it was an unbelievable free-kick from Lucas Digne.

“He actually whips it over the wall, and David de Gea has no chance.”

Villa and Digne couldn’t maintain their clean sheet going into half-time, with Emi Martinez beaten by a heavily deflected Luke Shaw effort.

Despite having a reputation for being a dead ball specialist, this was Digne’s first league goal from a free-kick since 2018.

Digne’s an established Villa player now, but things could have been very different.

Newcastle were desperate to sign the French international, before eventually settling for the man he replaced at Villa; Matt Targett.

Villa fans will be hoping that Digne comes up with more moments of magic that impress the likes of Morrison.

They might just need them to drag themselves away from a relegation battle this season.
