‘Unbelievable’: BBC pundit utterly blown away by ‘£15m’ Rangers player in Europa League tonight

Glasgow Rangers captain James Tavernier delivered an impressive performance as the Ibrox side reached the Europa League final.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s charges overturned a 1-0 semi-final first-leg loss at RB Leipzig to win 3-2 on aggregate at a packed Ibrox.

Tavernier got the ball rolling for Rangers in the 18th minute of the game, nipping in at the back post to steer home Ryan Kent’s angled strike.

The £200,000 man became the top scorer in the Europa League with that goal, his seventh of the campaign.

“It’s an unbelievable run from James Tavernier to get in the box,” BBC pundit Leanne Crichton said on Sportsound ().

“If anyone was going to draw Rangers level, he was going to be the man.”

And just six minutes later, Glen Kamara sent Ibrox into raptures when he guided a first-time shot into the far corner with his left foot.

Leipzig levelled the tie in the 71st minute when Christopher Nkunku volleyed home from Angelino’s curling cross.

However, just 10 minutes from time, Ibrox erupted again as John Lundstram slammed home after a poor Josko Gvardiol clearance.

Tavernier joined the Gers for a modest £200,000 and has had his fair share of criticism over the years.

However, he has now captained the Ibrox side to a Europa League final, the year after winning Rangers’ first title in 10 years.

In 2021, Kenny Miller any clubs eyeing Tavernier should have to pay £15million.

But the 30-year-old is one European match away from delivering something absolutely priceless to Rangers and the Bears.

Rangers will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final on Wednesday 18 May in Seville.
