Allan Saint-Maximin and Bruno Guimaraes praise Newcastle star Emil Krafth

Before facing Manchester United last night, the last time Emil Krafth played a senior game for Newcastle was all the way back in August last year.

The Swede missed almost the whole of last season after suffering a serious ACL injury. It has been a long road back to full fitness for him, but he was excellent last night.

Howe deployed Krafth as a centre-back against Manchester United instead of using him in his usual right-back role. That made it interesting, but the Swede had a very good game.

After the memorable 3-0 win, Krafth celebrated with a post on , highlighting what an incredible feeling it was to be back on the pitch after over 400 days out.

His teammates, past and present, showed him love in the replies below.

Bruno Guimaraes wrote, “You’re unbelievable bro,” while Allan Saint-Maximin commented: “What a guy!”

A look at Krafth’s stats vs Manchester United

It’s not usual for a player to play the full 90 minutes in his first game back after over a year out, but Krafth did that against Manchester United last night.

The Swede, who joined the Magpies for £5 million in 2019 (), made three clearances, two tackles and blocked three shots.

He also had 52 touches of the ball, completed 28 of his passes and even had a shot at goal (). He could easily have scored last night, which would’ve been fantastic for him.

Krafth should be really pleased with his performance at Old Trafford last night, and he will give Howe options now with so many Newcastle players out injured.
