Unai Emery admits Spurs have bid for Pau Torres…but it’s too low

♏Spurs have made a move to try and sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres, but Unai Emery says that the money offered has fallen short of his valuation.

Torres is one of the hottest properties on the European market when it comes to defenders. A regular with Villarreal and Spain, Torres is believed to have a release-clause of around £55m in his contract.

♏Reports in April suggested that Arsenal were also interested in the defender, and Unai Emery

𝐆However, it is Spurs who are making their move, albeit, below what the La Liga side want for their star man.

Rejected

🍨Speaking ahead of this weekend’s La Liga fixtures, Villarreal boss Emery admitted a bid had come, but had been swiftly rejected.

“Pau is a player from the house we love and we are open to his growth, so if great offers arrive and they are good for everyone, there could be a way out,” Emery said. (quotes from )

“We are aware that the player can grow, that they will arrive big teams and that these operations would also serve so that the team can grow economically and be able to sign. To this day we think that it remains because, although it is an offer from a weighty and important club, it still does not meet the requirements.”

ꦐIt remains to be seen if Spurs will go back for Torres. Having already spent a hefty sum already, it could be dependant on Paratici selling a few.

TBR View: £55m is steep, especially after Romero signing

꧙If Spurs were to just sign Torres and he be their main defensive capture, then £55m isn’t too bad in today’s game. But given they’ve already landed Cristian Romero, this seems a mammoth fee.

❀Paratici would be better pursuing a deal for Tomiyasu. He’s half the price, if not less, and would do a similar job for the season.

⭕Torres is a class-act, but money is an object and this deal could prove too much for Spurs.
