Two former Leeds United bosses appointed on same day acts as warning to Bielsa
Leeds United are still on the hunt for a new manager. The attempts to bring Marcelo Bielsa to Elland Road, whilst admirable and ambitious, are also proving difficult. Leeds sacked Paul Heckingbottom at the start of the month and the West Yorkshire side wants the Argentine as a marquee arrival.
Of course, anyone would be wary of taking the Leeds job. In the past five seasons, the club has had numerous bosses come and go. In fact, the tally stands at 10.
But whilst Leeds close in on Bielsa, two of the recent managers who did not manage to turn things around at the club both got new jobs today.
Uwe Rosler was handed the chance at Leeds in 2015. The German did not last long. After just 12 games in charge, former chairman Massimo Cellino gave him the boot.
Neil Redfearn was academy manager at Thorp Arch. After two previous caretaker spells, he was given a permanent role in 2014. He then left both his roles at the club, after an acrimonious split with the club.
Today, Rosler was appointed the new manager at Swedish powerhouse Malmo. The German has previous success managing in Scandinavia but this is his first foray into Sweden.
Redfearn, on the other hand, has a new role in women’s football. He has left Doncaster Rovers Belles to become the new manager at Liverpool Ladies.
Both will now be looking for more success in their new roles then they previously had at Elland Road. But seeing two recent former managers getting a job on the same day is a stark warning to Bielsa about just how fickle the Leeds job can be. Hopefully, he can crack the code.
