‘Two best’: Owen Hargreaves says Gabriel Jesus and 31-year-old Leeds star have been the Premier League’s best players this season

that Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus and Leeds United star Rodrigo Moreno have been the Premier League’s best players this season.

Rodrigo continued his excellent goalscoring form on Sunday afternoon as he scored a brilliant header in Leeds’ 3-0 win over Chelsea.

The 31-year-old has now bagged four goals in just three games for the Whites. And while Leeds have apparently been on the lookout for a striker, the Spaniard has stepped up.

And due to his brilliant start to the season, Hargreaves has named him as the best player in the Premier League this season alongside Jesus.

“That’s the only way they can compete with Chelsea, [Manchester] City and Liverpool. You’ve got to outrun them,” Hargreaves said.

“I think those numbers [distance covered statistics] don’t show respect to the facts that when they won the ball and turned it over, they had quality.

“All the goals were good goals. All the guys [Leeds players] are good ball players. Yeah high intensity, high pressure, high turnovers in the final third, but they’re all good ball players, they’re all good on the ball and that’s what he [Marsch] wants.

“If they’re clinical in front of goal, then watch out. Because obviously they’re doing that without Bamford. You think about the two best players in the league so far, obviously Gabriel Jesus and Rodrigo at the top of the pitch.

“So, all of a sudden you’ve got [Jack] Harrison, Dan James and [Brenden] Aaronson in the hole, your new midfielders [Marc] Roca and Tyler Adams. They’re well set-up to have a go. Credit to Jesse Marsch, he’s done an amazing job turning that team into something really interesting.”

Jesus has also made a brilliant start to his Arsenal career as he’s already netted twice and provided three assists.

It’s certainly high praise for Rodrigo to be named as one of the league’s best alongside the Brazilian striker.

The Leeds man had struggled to nail down a place in the team since making the switch from Valencia back in 2020.
But Rodrigo seems to have found his feet at Elland Road at the perfect time and is really stepping up after the club lost Raphinha this summer.
