How Twitter reacted as Neymar moved closer to a world record PSG transfer
The transfer window is spiralling out of control in terms of prices being paid for players, but Neymar to Paris Saint Germain could prove to be a watershed moment in the history of football. He is set to become the world’s most expensive player by a long distance as he edges closer to a move to the French capital.
report that he has been given permission to discuss a move to the Ligue 1 club in a deal that will be worth £198 million. This will be more than £100 million more than the fee paid by Manchester United for Paul Pogba last summer.
that the Brazilian had been given permission to miss training as he looks to sort out his future one way or another. The finances of this deal reach a new level of absurdity and there could be implications for PSG if a deal is completed.
The Catalan outfit are ready to push for a Financial Fair Play investigation into the French club if a deal does go through, as reported by . This came days after the La Liga president, Javier Tebas, threatened a legal response if UEFA don’t take action, in an interview with .
Considering the transfer fee involved, it would be expected that Neymar would be offered huge wages to convince him to move to Paris.
This will change the landscape of football and it could lead to a further spike in transfer fees across the board. Liverpool will likely raise their demands for Philippe Coutinho if Barcelona come calling as they know the Spanish club have money to burn. In addition to that, they will feel that the midfielder is worth more than half of the Neymar fee, which will take the asking price to over £100 million.
It is easy to see why Neymar wants a move to PSG as he has been in Lionel Messi’s shadow at the Nou Camp and, if he wants to be considered as the world’s best player in his own right, he needs to be the leading man of a team. He may get that opportunity in the future at Barcelona, but it would be a risk to wait.
The major problem with a move to PSG is the quality of the French league. Monaco and Nice both showed improvements last season, but their business models are unlikely to allow them to consistently challenge the Parisian club. Ligue 1 is a level beneath the Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga. Can the world’s best player play his domestic football in France? That is doubtful.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the news…
This Neymar transfer is actually happening isn't it 😳

Pique: 'Do you want more money or do you want to win titles?'
Neymar: 'Both. All the best.'

Neymar to PSG – if/when it happens – will be the biggest transfer deal of all time, and I don’t just mean in terms of the transfer fee.

"For to PSG you could've got 792,000,000 Freddos"
What else can £198m buy?
— Match of the Day (@BBCMOTD)
It has been a ridiculous summer for transfer fees, but this Neymar move? It's enough to make you question it all really.

Neymar is a world class player, but his exit from Barcelona and his attitude towards club and fans has been very unprofessional.

Although Barcelona will still have two world class attackers…

Finally, there were some thinking of how it would affect the Premier League…
Barcelona are going to be coming in all guns blazing for Coutinho now. Going to be very difficult for Liverpool to keep hold of him.
— Football Cvlture (@FootballCVLTURE)
If Barcelona fail in their pursuit of Coutinho, you just know Eriksen is only a little further down the list. Barça are a wounded animal.
