In addition to that, they will feel that the midfielder is worth more than half of the Neymar fee, which will take the asking price to over £100 million.
It is easy to see why Neymar wants a move to PSG as he has been in Lionel Messi’s shadow at the Nou Camp and, if he wants to be considered as the world’s best player in his own right, he needs to be the leading man of a team. He may get that opportunity in the future at Barcelona, but it would be a risk to wait.
The major problem with a move to PSG is the quality of the French league. Monaco and Nice both showed improvements last season, but their business models are unlikely to allow them to consistently challenge the Parisian club. Ligue 1 is a level beneath the Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga. Can the world’s best player play his domestic football in France? That is doubtful.
