How Twitter reacted to Swansea City signing Wilfried Bony from Manchester City
Swansea City have completed the signing of Wilfried Bony from Manchester City who arrives for his second spell at the club. The striker scored 35 goals in 70 appearances during his first stint at the club and emerged as one of the most consistent goal-scorers in the Premier League. This earned him a move to the Etihad Stadium, but it never clicked for the Ivorian. Despite the club paying £28 million, he was never given a sustained run in the first team.
report that the deal is worth £12 million, which means that City have agreed to make a big loss for him. He wasn’t going to feature at all for Pep Guardiola’s men this season and it was important that the club moved him on. If they had failed, his value would have plummeted before the January transfer window and they would have brought in even less for him.
It was important that Swansea signed a striker on deadline day as they had agreed to sell Fernando Llorente to Tottenham. The Spaniard was the club’s first-choice striker last season and did superbly in what was a tough campaign at the Liberty Stadium.
Since leaving the club, Bony hasn’t had much success. He was on loan at Stoke City last season and managed to score only two goals. The striker looked shot of confidence and a shadow of the player that he was during his spell at Swansea. It is a huge risk for the Swans to bring him back to South Wales as he might not be able to re-find his form.
His return is a great story on deadline day and it lessens the loss of Llorente. Supporters will be pleased to have him back at the club and they will be hoping that he can do as well during his second spell.
