Troy Deeney suggests that Martin Odegaard’s injury could really trouble one Arsenal player

Last week it was Declan Rice’s suspension that was causing concern ahead of the North London derby, but Mikel Arteta perhaps now has an even bigger issue at Arsenal.

Martin Odegaard injured his ankle for Norway on Monday, the Arsenal captain left the pitch visibly in pain and it would now be a surpri🐲se if he was🎃 ready for Sunday.

Of course, the bad news has been piling up for the Gunners given Riccardo Calafiori was also injured whilst playing for Italy against France and W✨illiam Saliba.

Arsenal added to their squad ꦯdepth this summer, and Arteta’s team will now be put to the test in just the fourth gameweek of the Premier League season.

Arsenal fans have been longing for the likes of Ethan Nwaneri to get a chance after an excellent pre-season, but may not have imagined it would hap𝔍pen in a North London derby.

Declan Rice may also suffer if Martin Odegaard’s injury is longer-term

Troy Deeney has now been sharing his reaction to news of Odegaard’s injury for , and made an interesting point about🌊 the repercussions it could have beyond just choosing a replacement.

Deeney said: “If we are talking for a longer period of time, I think it’s monumental. Iꦅ think he is obviously the captain.

“I think he is more captain by showing w🅺hat he does, his leadership, he is more of a follow me than a screaming and shouting route.

“I worked the first game against Wolves, and Arsenal w🌊eren’t great for the first 20, 30 minutes.

“He did extra runs, he started to sort of spark the press, he was the one jumping probably past Havertz and Saka at times to go and get it. A💎nd once they started ticking, everything went through him.

“He dictated the tempo, and I think he has brought another level o🥃ut of Declan Rice as well, in terms of I think Declan knows to give him the ball and I ca🀅n trust him, he won’t lose it.”

Mikel Arteta will lean on Kai Havertz once again

It could now be argued that Arsenal made a mistake loaning out Fabio Vieira last month, a player who wou𒅌ld be a seamless replacement for Odegaard.

But with that decision irreversible now, Arsenal need to find a soluꦬtion.

And as he often did last season, Artet꧒a may now turn to Kai Havertz in midfield if Odegaard is missi♎ng – which isn’t quite confirmed just yet.

Perhaps Havertz may play in a new-look mid𝓰field three alongside Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey.

That would be something of a gamble, and perhaps deploying Jorginho will be seen as ꧋pre🍎ferable.

A difficult call for Arꦏtet🐈a to make, but he’s certainly capable of getting it right.
