Troy Deeney says £12m Arsenal player will be decent midfield cover amid crisis

Arsenal are currently in the midst of a personnel crisis in midfield as domestic football prepares to resume after the international break.

The Gunners went into the international break with Mikel Merino on the sidelines due to injury,꧋ while Declan Ric⛄e is suspended.

Now, Arsenal may be without Martin Odegaard too, after he suffere🎐d an injury in Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria on Monday night.

A day later, as reported ♈by , the Gunners captain was pictured boarding an aeroplane on crutches and no shoe on his left foot.

Mikel Arteta now has some🤪 thinking to do ahead of Sunday’s North London derby and potentially the Champions League meeting with Atalanta.

Troy Deeney, speaking on talkSPORT, has given his verdict on how Jorginho should faಞre as a replacement for Rice in the Arsenal midfield.

Troy Deeney says Jorginho ‘will do well’ for Arsenal in Champions League

Deeney believes Jorginho is an obvious choice to replace Rice at No. 6 and, w🦩hile he’s “not the same type of player”, he’ll do well.

“For Declan Rice, they have obviously got Jorginho who could com💫e in,” Deeney said on t♊alkSPORT (10/9/24, 8:57am).

“Not the same type of player, but wil✅l keep the ball 𒆙and he will do well in the Champions League games.”

Who could replace Odegaard in midfield?

Odegaard is a bit of a trickier proposition to replace. While Kai Havertz seems like the obvious choice, this me🍎ans they’ll have to bring someoไne in up front.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is another option in midfield, as he often covers in the middle of ♛the park as part of his inverted full-back role. He also used to play regularly in midfield for Ukraine.

Leandro Trossard is another option at No. 10. He has ꦰcovered there for Arsenal and Belgium before, and in 2020/21, he made 14 appearances in that position for Brighton.

Alternativelꦓy, Gabriel Jesus can line up at No. 10 while Havertz remains up front, and even Jorginho himself could be an option to replace Odegaard.

The £12million man i𒁏s a good passer and could easily take up the responsibility of ball progression for Arsenal.
