Troy Deeney says nothing would change at Tottenham if they ‘outstanding’ manager took over

Tottenham Hotspur are in a terrible situation right now, and it would be more than fair for Spurs to consider a managerial change.

Ange Postecoglou is under massive pressure at the moment, and Spurs are thinking about sacking the Australian.

Andoni Iraola is Tottenham’s top target to replace Postecoglou, but it’s unlikely that the Spaniard would leave Bournemouth right away.

Ryan Mason has often stepped in as an interim coach in the past, but according to Troy Deeney, speaking on TalkSPORT, Mason wouldn’t have any sort of positive impact if he was appointed now.

Troy Deeney makes Ryan Mason Tottenham claim

Deeney spoke about the idea of Mason coming in at Tottenham now.

The pundit says that Mason wouldn’t be able to change anything at Spurs, noting that, no matter what, this is still the same, underperforming, group of players.

“This is the bit I get frustrated with. It’s the same group of players. If you sack Ange today and Ryan Mason went in tomorrow, you would see a completely different set of players turn up for maybe two or three weeks, but then the players would go back to what they are,” Deeney said.

“Then we’d say Ryan Mason isn’t good enough, Ange isn’t good enough. I was watching the game last night and I was asking this question, who has the bigger rebuild, is it Man United or Spurs? In my opinion it’s Spurs. They have a load of players in there who are very good players, who’s the leader? I don’t have a clue.”

Ryan Mason record as Tottenham manager

Deeney says that nothing would change if Mason was brought in at Tottenham, and, the sad reality is, he’s probably not wrong.

Mason has been in this position before, taking over a team that is at a low ebb, and, unfortunately, the young manager hasn’t been able to get much of a tune out of Spurs when he has been tasked with managing them.

Mason has been described as ‘outstanding’ as a coach in the past, and he may well have a big future in the game, but the reality at Tottenham right now is that there aren’t many managers who’d be able to get this team going in any meaningful way.

Spurs need to change something, but, sadly, an immediate managerial change may not make much difference this season.
