Tottenham’s James Maddison reacts after England suffer 2-1 defeat against Spain in Euro 2024 final
Tottenham No.10 James Maddison has now reacted after England suffered a 2-1 defeat against Spain in the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
The England international made headlines before the tournament even began after Gareth Southgate decided not to take him to Germany, interestingly removing any mention of the Three Lions from his Instagram account as he seemed to take the news badly.
So, what has Tottenham‘s James Maddison said after England lost to Spain at UEFA Euro 2024? Let’s take a look…
How James Maddison reacted to Spain 2-1 England
While the 27-year-old’s initial reaction on Instagram after being dropped by Southgate was a little childish, his response to England’s defeat in Berlin was full of class.
Maddison wrote: “So proud of that group of lads. Fell at the last hurdle but doesn’t take away the amazing moments this group gave the country once again.”
It was an eventful tournament for the Three Lions, to say the least.
Amid plenty of dire, dull football, there were some special moments that many will remember for years, such as Jude Bellingham’s remarkable overhead kick against Slovakia, as well as Ollie Watkins netting a 90th minute winner in the semi-final against the Netherlands.
While it is incredibly disappointing not to leapfrog that last hurdle once again under Southgate, it was enjoyable to be involved in yet another run to the final – something that rarely used to happen for the Three Lions.
Tottenham No.10 should be full of motivation
Maddison was clearly saddened by Southgate’s decision to leave him out, although that could be good news for Ange Postecoglou back at Tottenham.
The £40m man should now be full of motivation to work his way back into the England team, which may see him step up and become an even better player for Spurs.

Furthermore, Southgate may actually be leaving his role in charge of England, which would give Maddison a clean slate under a new manager, and possibly even more motivation to shine in north London.
Hopefully, the man from Coventry enjoys a successful 2024/25 campaign, and can work his way back into the England setup next season.
