Tottenham’s hopes of solving central midfield conundrum with de Jong are slipping away
Over the past year or so, it has become abundantly clear that Tottenham Hotspur need to upgrade their central midfield department.
With Mousa Dembele’s future looking uncertain, Eric Dier flitting in and out of form and Victor Wanyama spending time out injured, Spurs have looked weak in this department.
The consensus among fans is that Tottenham need to sign a top young talent – someone who can provide a long-term solution in central midfield.
And one of the ideal candidates was Frenkie de Jong. The young Dutchman is rated as one of the best youngsters in Europe.
But this deal is looking increasingly unlikely. Manchester City have entered pole position to land the 21-year-old.

But he must now start scouring the market for other potential midfielders who are short-term and long-term solutions to this conundrum.
