Tottenham’s £17m signing just looks better and better after what happened last night
It was certainly a busy summer for Tottenham Hotspur, one dominated by the Harry Kane transfer saga shortly after Ange Postecoglou arrived.
And although the Kane situation was making plans very difficult, Spurs did still have a very effective window.

Moreover, a key part of that was the signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.
Replacing Hugo Lloris was always going to be a difficult task, and anyone coming in was going to face a lot of pressure.
However, the Italian has coped admirably, going from strength to strength during a tough period for the club.
That being said, things could have turned out very differently.
Although he eventually ended up at their rivals, Arsenal, Tottenham were with a move for David Raya.
A price tag was often mentioned, considerably more than Spurs paid for Vicario.
And after a nightmare performance against Luton town last night, one that follows a lot of recent difficulties, Tottenham and Postecoglou may be very pleased with their work in the transfer market.
Raya isn’t a bad goalkeeper by any means, but he’s struggling at a top club.
Ange Postecoglou won’t be disappointed Tottenham chose Guglielmo Vicario this summer
Vicario did look like a smart signing from day one.
Not only because of his very reasonable transfer fee, but the 27-year-old was already considered one of the best prospects in Europe.

The Italian definitely has room to improve, but he’s showing all the key characteristics and the heart needed.
On the other hand, doubts did exist over Raya’s suitability for a top club.
Experts claimed that Raya often liked to guess which direction a striker would shoot – something that would be exposed at the elite level.
However, it’s now the command of his box that is causing Raya his biggest issue – something that isn’t a concern for Vicario.
So whilst Tottenham fans will be hoping for more in January, Postecoglou is already off to a good start with his influence on transfers.
That being said, Spurs have now been dealt some potentially worrying news ahead of the window.
