Tottenham’s £15m man accused of playing like a scared child after his display vs Leicester City
Tottenham’s season didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts this week as they drew 1-1 with Leicester City on Monday evening.
Spurs were held to a draw against the newly-promoted Foxes, and while there were some promising moments, Tottenham did look bereft of ideas towards the end of the game.
Speaking on ESPN, Craig Burley has been discussing Tottenham’s performance against Leicester, and he’s bemoaned the lack of impact Timo Werner has made.
The pundit says that he has no idea what Werner does on the pitch, claiming that the German looked like a scared child on the pitch at times.
Craig Burley hammers Timo Werner
The pundit shared his verdict on the man.
“You say about making an impact off the bench, I’ll tell you another one for me, and I look at him as an international footballer of some repute who has been around the block. Is someone going to tell me what the hell Timo Werner does?” Burley said.
“He came into that game and he looked frightened stiff of the full-back. He never runs in behind, he never gets the cross in. I don’t give two stuffs what he did in Germany, he’s not at Leipzig.”
“I’ve seen it before from him, whenever a ball is played up to him, if a defender is close to him he’s like a frightened schoolkid, he taps it off to the side, five yards, it’s a lack of responsibility.”

Timo Werner won’t play much this season
Timo Werner had a real chance to impress against Leicester, and he may not get many more opportunities after this.
Indeed, with Heung-Min Son, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski all capable of playing on the wings, Werner may be way down the pecking order at Spurs now.
Werner hasn’t been brilliant since arriving at Tottenham earlier this year, and his performance against Leicester was weak to say the least.
Don’t be surprised if Werner spends a lot of time on the bench this season.
