Tottenham youngster compared to Julian Alvarez will join Spurs in pre-season
Pre-season is just around the corner and Tottenham Hotspur’s senior players will soon start returning to Hotspur Way for training.
Tottenham first-teamers who have not been in Euro 2024 or Copa America action are expected to start returning on Saturday 6 July, as per .
Pre-season brings about the opportunity for coaches to take a look at academy players who have done well over the last 12 months and continue to show promise.
Now, according to , Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is set to include an academy star who has been likened to Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez in his programme.

Jamie Donley set for Tottenham pre-season
The player in question is Jamie Donley, who has gone from strength to strength over the last few years.
The 19-year-old attacker has already made his debut for Tottenham. Indeed, he has made four senior appearances for Spurs.
Last season, Donley made 27 appearances at all levels, registering eight goals and 17 assists. Put simply, he looks ready for a step up.
Football.london have reported that Donley is set to work with Postecoglou and the first team from this weekend onwards as they return for pre-season at Hotspur Way.
The teenager is expected to be involved in the coming friendlies and could even be in the squad for Tottenham’s tour of Japan and South Korea at the end of July.
Donley could potentially go out on loan before the transfer window shuts, suggested the report.
Luton Town, Oxford United, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and Birmingham City are all said to be keeping tabs on the Spurs gem.
Donley compared to Alvarez, Harry Kane and Troy Parrott
Donley has gone from strength to strength in the Tottenham academy over the past 12 months and it will be interesting to see what this season holds for him.
At just 19 years of age, he has already outgrown the Under-21s and, as such, an EFL loan should be the next port of call, after pre-season of course.
Back in November 2021, Tottenham youth team expert wrote: “Personally Jamie reminds me very much of Troy Parrott at the same age.
“In how creative he is with the ball and also his willingness to drop deep to get on the ball to try and create chances, even in these very early days.”
And in February, Jack Pitt-Brooke told that a Spurs insider he spoke with had compared him to Man City’s Alvarez.
“If you speak to anyone who knows the most about this topic, they all say that Donley is the best of his age group,” he said.
“I saw him play at the start of last season and my impression is that it’s not clear what position he will play when he grows up into senior football.
“He’s played up front a lot but he’s not a pure striker, he’s a nine and a half, some have compared him to Harry Kane, and someone I spoke to the other day compared him to Julian Alvarez at Man City who is a striker but takes up a lot of deeper positions as well,”
