Tottenham would sign £45m player ‘in a heartbeat’, they’ve been trying since November

Tottenham Hotspur would sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher ‘in a heartbeat’ if the opportunity arises this month.

That’s according to The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, who has shared the latest on Tottenham’s interest in the Chelsea star.

Spurs’ admiration for Conor Gallagher is well-documented and the north Londoners remain keen on signing the midfielder.

Ange Postecoglou has already snapped up Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin this month, addressing two key areas of his squad in the process.

It has already been reported that the Aussie boss is keen to bring in a midfielder after signing a forward and defender in January.

Fabrizio Romano claimed just yesterday that Postecoglou is really keen on the idea of snapping up Gallagher from Chelsea.

And while Sami Mokbel claims it will be a difficult deal to pull off this month, Spurs have seemingly been ‘on the case’ over a move since November.

Spurs have been trying for Gallagher since November

Speaking on the , Mokbel shared what a recruitment figure at a Premier League club has told him about Tottenham’s long-standing interest in Gallagher.

“The immediate one that springs to mind is one they would do in a heartbeat is Conor Gallagher at Chelsea,” the journalist said. “Long been rumoured that Ange is a big fan of his, those assertions are genuine.

“Tottenham are in the market for Gallagher. That’s my information anyway. I was speaking to someone relatively recently, another recruitment figure at another Premier League club, who suggested to me in November that Tottenham were already on the case with regards to Gallagher in January if they can get it over the line.

“I think it would be a difficult deal to do right now ahead of the deadline but I can see Tottenham making Gallagher the top priority in the summer window providing he hasn’t signed a new contract with Chelsea.”

The journalist was then asked if Tottenham would actively pursue a player like Gallagher without being offered some encouragement that he is open to the move.

“I think you’re right, Ricky,” Mokbel responded. “They wouldn’t go and pursue or hold a long-term interest in the player without having had the encouragement to do so.

“There are several reasons why representatives of Gallagher would give Tottenham encouragement to continue their interest.

“The most basic one is, yes, he would absolutely be interested in a move to Tottenham if push came to shove.

“The cynical side and I have seen this happen so many times before, Gallagher’s reps may use Tottenham’s interest to try and drive a new contract at Chelsea.”

Tottenham may find it increasingly difficult to land Gallagher this month given his importance to this current Chelsea side.

The 23-year-old has racked up 20 Premier League appearances under Mauricio Pochettino and has even captained Tottenham’s London rivals.

Nevertheless, there have been suggestions that Chelsea would consider a bid worth around as they look to raise funds for a new forward signing.
