Tottenham were interested in signing £50m attacker who Jude Bellingham called a ‘top talent’ in January

Almost out of necessity, Tottenham Hotspur were forced to conduct something of a relatively old-fashioned transfer window in January.

Tottenham🐻 were very active in a window which is now seldom used by Premier League sides, in wake of PSR being introduced.

Take♊ Arsenal for example, Spurs’ north London rivals, Mikel Arteta hasn’t made a single signing in the last two January w♏indows, much to their fan’s displeasure.

But Tottenham actually welcomed four players to N1𝕴7 mid-season, if you include Yang Min-h𝓀yeok’s arrival too, who is now on loan at Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.

Of course, the most significant of those arrivals was Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on deadline day, who ♏has already captured the 📖imagination in north London.

Tottenham were interested in signing Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund

Ange Postecoglou’s side were intent on signing an attacking player mid🥃-season to boost the club’s chances of a respectable league finis𒆙h, and perhaps even winning a trophy.

That being said, 🌞 has now reported that Spurs considered two other exciting signings, aside from Tel.

According to the report, Tottenham were interested in AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze and new Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.

Spurs’ interest in the pair never became more than that, but it’s interesting that they were targeting a winger, in wake of most perceiving Tel as a number nine for Postecogl෴ou.

Gittens himself left Manchester City for Dortmund in 2020, hoping to follow a similar trajectory to Jadon Sancho andಞ Jude Bellingham.

And the 20-year-old is arguably now doing so.

Gittens would cost Tottenham £50m according to a recent report, a playe⛄r Spurs have also been tentatively linked with in the past.

And as was the case with Sancho, and even Bellingham to a degree, it ﷽only seems lik𒀰e a matter of time until Gittens makes his way back to England.

Jude Bellingham has talked up Jamie Gittens’ potential

Speaking to ♓ in 2023, Bellingham actually 𝕴claimed Gittens would be a candidate to win the Golden Boy award one day.

First mentioning Real Madrid teammate Arda Guler for the accolade, Bellingham then said: “Then my old teammate Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, to♕p talent.”

It seems unlikely that both Gittens and Tel would have arrived in the same window, and fans in N17🦩 are probably fairly content with the latter.

Incidentally, Johan Lange has spoken up Tel’s quality ahead of his soon-to-come debut.

And it’s not impossible that Tel makes his first start against Liverpool in Tottenham’s crucial semi-final on Thursday.
