Tottenham transfer news: Spurs planning more talks over ‘perfect’ £40m signing this week
reports that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to hold more talks with Sporting Lisbon over Pedro Porro this week, after claims he’s already agreed to a switch to north London.
Tottenham are yet to bring in any fresh faces this month, despite the fact Antonio Conte has publicly called for the need for investment in the side.
Spurs’ problems at right wing-back have been evident ever since Conte took charge last season, with Emerson Royal unsuited to the attacking demands placed on him by the Italian.
Matt Doherty has shown promise in spells but has really struggled since returning from a knee injury, while Djed Spence is yet to get his opportunity since his summer switch from Middlesbrough.
As a result, Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Porro, a player they will know well after facing him twice in the Champions League group stages this season.
Italian journalist claims Spurs have already reached an agreement in principle with Porro over a switch to north London. But it seems that Conte’s men are still some way off meeting the Portuguese outfit’s demands for the player.
Tottenham planning more talks over Porro
reports that Tottenham held talks with Sporting on Monday but a deal is still far from being completed.
The Portuguese side are demanding that Porro’s £40 million release clause will have to be paid in full for him to leave this month.
But the north Londoners are planning to hold more meetings later this week as they aim to try and strike a deal for the Spaniard.
claimed on Monday that Spurs are willing to pay Porro’s release clause but only in instalments, which is acceptable to some Sporting board members, but not others.
Porro has been described as the ‘’ player for Conte’s system but it must be frustrating for Spurs fans seeing this deal drag out.
It seems quite simple from Tottenham’s point of view, they either have to pay his release clause or move on to other targets.
Conte is in desperate need of reinforcements in the position but there are doubts over his long-term future at the club. After a poor run of form in the Premier League and a crushing north London derby defeat on Sunday, it remains unclear whether he will commit his future to Tottenham.
If that is the case, Spurs will have to be wary about bringing in players that suit Conte’s rigid system and in Porro’s case, he’s a far better option as an attacking wing-back rather than a full-back.
