Report: Levy can sign star who ‘gives everything’ for £13m amid Tottenham links

According to , Tottenham Hotspur can sign RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer for a bargain fee this summer.

The Austrian is likely to be the next out of the door at Leipzig after Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate plus Bayern Munich’s deal for Dayot Upamecano. That’s because Sabitzer will enter the final year of his contract at the Bundesliga outfit next month.

So far, there have been no signs that Sabitzer will agree to new terms before his current deal expires. The 27-year-old has made no secret of his desires for a new challenge after seven years at the Red Bull Arena.

Tottenham had explored signing Sabitzer last year after two goals in their Champions League meetings caught Jose Mourinho’s attention. But a €50million (£43m) asking price brought a halt to Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy’s pursuit.

Now, though, Levy could sign Sabitzer for just €15m (£13m) due to his contract situation. Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaf is also expected to reduce the size of the squad ahead of manager .

A strong showing from Sabitzer at this summer’s Euro 2020 could see interest in his services expand, though. reported in March that Tottenham are one of three Premier League sides looking to sign the international.

Sabitzer heads into the European Championship after recording in all competitions for Leipzig last season. He is also Die Roten’s captain and led the Saxony outfit to the DFB-Pokal final in May.

TBR’s view: Sabitzer a bargain for Tottenham

Tottenham could face a fight to sign Sabitzer if he has a strong Euro 2020 showing this summer. But the Austrian would be a bargain for Levy with Leipzig backed to accept bids of just £13m. That is a huge reduction in the £43m demanded only a year ago.

It is also a huge under-valuation of a player of Sabitzer’s talents. The 27-year-old is a leader and a box-to-box star that any side in Europe would be happy to have. He progresses play well, switches possession from side-to-side and can mop up loose balls as well as score.

Austria boss Franco Foda lauds Sabitzer for his determination on the pitch, as well. He has previously stated via : “Marcel is a player who gives everything for 90 minutes, does a lot for the team and works a lot defensively.”

Mourinho may no longer be at Tottenham, but Levy will struggle to find a reason why Sabitzer is not worth signing for £13m.
