Report: Tottenham tell 28-year-old who ‘has no desire’ to find club, exit talks held
Tottenham Hotspur have told several players, including Serge Aurier, to look for a new club ahead of the arrival of Paulo Fonseca, according to .
Talks between Spurs and Fonseca over replacing Jose Mourinho are progressing well and could be finalised by early next week. Chairman Daniel Levy is currently combing through the final details of his proposed contract and plans for a backroom team.
Fabio Paratici is also close to becoming the club’s new Chief Football Officer and could be announced over the weekend. The 48-year-old has already been working with Levy on Tottenham’s summer transfer plans, however.
One of the first bits of business Paratici has carried out is how Tottenham can look to increase Fonseca’s budget. This has seen a number of players and their agents be told to find new clubs over the summer.
Aurier had already signalled his intention to pursue a future away from north London. The right-back is one of several at Spurs entering the final year of their contracts and are free to go.
A return to Paris Saint-Germain is possibly on the cards for the Ivorian. stated last month that a potential four-year, €7million-a-season (£115k-p/w) contract had been drawn up after talks. Tottenham had requested around €12m (£10m) to sell the 28-year-old, as well.
Spurs have also raised £13m through the departure of defender Juan Foyth. The Argentine has completed a permanent move to loan side Villarreal after the La Liga outfit triggered a purchase clause.
TBR’s view: Tottenham must seal Aurier exit
Paratici is wasting no time in getting to work at Tottenham, and must now work with Levy to secure a move for Aurier. The defender will be a solid avenue for the pair to explore to boost Fonseca’s transfer budget and free wages.
Aurier earns in north London but seemingly does not have or want a future at Tottenham. He rarely featured last season, either, with the full-back Premier League games under Mourinho and Ryan Mason.
His performances on the field were not always up to scratch, either. Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood criticised Aurier in April for his efforts against Southampton. He claimed the Ivorian ‘has no desire to go and win that ball’. Something that Fonseca cannot have in his side next season.
