Tottenham transfer: Brighton plan raid for 23-year-old defender

Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion are planning a raid on Tottenham for defender Joe Rodon,

The young center-back will be hoping to impress new Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo in the near future. As he reshapes the squad though, he could be the subject of interest.

The 23-year-old signed for Spurs back in October and played a bit-part role during his maiden campaign. He featured 14 times for the club, starting nine games.

Graham Potter looks set to receive a cash windfall. Ben White is on the bring of joining Arsenal and they could receive around £50 million.

The Seagulls boss has played under Potter before when the pair were at Swansea together. Now, he’s eyeing a raid on Tottenham to link up once again with the defender.

The youngster was part of Wales’ team at Euro 2020. They were dumped out of the competition in the round of 16 after being thrashed by Denmark.

He will now have a short break before returning to Tottenham to try and impress Espirito Santo ahead of the new season.

Potter wants to ensure he heads to Brighton for pre-season, however. His team finished 16th last season and they’ll want to do better during 2021/22.

Tottenham talent Rodon would be a coup for Brighton

At 23 Rodon is a burgeoning talent and surely Spurs would be very foolish to let him leave.

They struggled at the back last season. Eric Dier was so poor he lost his England place, whilst Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez flattered to deceive.

Rodon has the potential to go into the Tottenham first team next season. He did superbly well at Euro 2020 and the time looks right for him to pin down a regular place.

Brighton are showing some ambition though by declaring their interest. Tottenham paid £11 million for the defender and they’ll stand to make a significant profit on that deal.

If the Seagulls are to progress up the Premier League, then signing players like Rodon is a must.

It remains to be seen whether or not they can lure him to the AMEX.
