Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal made an interesting comparison between Tottenham Hotspur star Steven Bergwijn and Dutch legend Arjen Robben.

Van Gaal’s men smashed four past Belgium to pick up a spectacular victory in the Nations League last week. Bergwijn was absolutely phenomenal and even scored a stunner to open the scoring a few minutes before half-time.

It really is strange that Bergwijn is on another level when he plays for the Netherlands, but in the Premier League at Tottenham, he can barely get a game.

Spurs are now reportedly looking to sell Bergwijn this summer, but van Gaal’s recent comments should give Antonio Conte something to think about.

Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn is faster than Arjen Robben

When you think of Holland’s two best attackers over the last 10 or 15 years, you think of Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben. On their day, both players were unstoppable, the latter thanks to his pace and dribbling on the right flank.

After the Netherlands’ victory over Belgium last week, van Gaal was so pleased with Bergwijn that he decided to compare the Tottenham man to Robben and van Persie, before claiming that the 24-year-old is much faster than the two.

Van Gaal said, as per : “If Bergwijn plays as he did tonight, he will be the equivalent of Robben and Van Persie. And then with more speed. He is a point of contact, does not lose a ball and also scores. What more could you want?”

“I also ask Steven: how is it possible that you play so well here at Orange? Then he says that I give him confidence. And I also put him in his power. He must have space.”

Bergwijn set to leave Spurs soon

Bergwijn is almost guaranteed to leave Tottenham this summer, with the player himself admitting that he’s on his way out. Just yesterday, the Dutchman all but confirmed he’s leaving Spurs, and it looks like it’s only a matter of time.

“Several clubs have come forward. Now, I just have to find a solution for myself that benefits both parties. I’m leaving,” he said, as quoted by TBR Football.

With Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski available, Conte and Tottenham aren’t going to block his move either. Daniel Levy is ready to sell him too but wants his demands to be met.

Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that Spurs’ asking price for the Dutch attacker stands at £25.7 million. Ajax and numerous other clubs are said to be keen.
