Tottenham think they have a fringe player worth over £26m, already rejected a bid for him
Despite a productive start to the January transfer window, it seems there’s still work to be done for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur.
As well as ongoing negotiations for Club Brugge’s Antonio Nusa, Spurs are thought to still be working on a few departures.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bryan Gil are two players who could leave the side before the month is over.
And it’s thought that those two sales or departures could lead to a couple of further arrivals.
Neither Hojbjerg or Gil are playing a significant role, and it seems an exit could suit all parties.
That being said, Spurs have refused to lose one player this month, having already rejected a £20m bid for Emerson Royal.
And although that may have surprised some fans, journalist Tom Barclay has now explained why Tottenham aren’t necessarily keen to sell the Brazilian this month.
Speaking on ‘’ podcast, Barclay insisted that Ange Postecoglou’s side would seek a big profit for Royal if they agreed to a sale.
Tottenham would only sell Emerson Royal for a big profit in January transfer window
Explaining Spurs’ stance, Barclay said: “Emerson as Ange Postecoglou has already said is one of the best trainers at the club, lots of commitment, he’s proved himself to be versatile, being able to play all across the back four.
“I think quite a few Spurs fans were surprised with the story on Sunday that Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s club, had had a bid rejected of what I understand to be about £20m given that Emerson’s not always been let’s say Spurs fans favourite player.

“But from Spurs point of view from what I understand is they signed him for £26m back in 2021, they see him as an established Premier League player who’s obviously got 10 Brazil caps, so they think he’s worth more than what they paid for him and if anything quite a lot more than they paid for him.
“I don’t know if the Saudi element comes into it, perhaps there’s a Saudi tax on players going that way because everyone knows they’re flush with cash.
“But, it’s also the fact that they don’t feel like they need to get rid of him and it would cause them a bit of a headache to go and replace him.
“And from the player’s point of view, I’m led to believe that he’s pretty happy at Tottenham, likes it there, but then again, he won’t be first choice, so you can see why it might be a bit of a quandary for him.”
One for the summer
On that basis it seems pretty unlikely that Tottenham will agree to a departure for Emerson Royal in the January transfer window.
Whilst the club seem keen to keep progressing their squad, they shouldn’t lose players who can still benefit the cause.
Were record-breaker Pedro Porro to get injured for example, the Brazilian would be straight into Postecoglou’s XI.
That being said, Spurs may now be braced to receive some interest for one of the players they would be keen to move on.
