Tottenham target Smalling involved in Harry Kane controversy in 2018
Reports from at the weekend suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Chris Smalling as the defender approaches the final months of his contract with Roma.
Smalling has reignited his career during his time in the Italian capital. Nevertheless, it is a surprise to see the 33-year-old linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But he would be available on a free transfer. And he has been extremely impressive with the Giallorossi since his .

He has also shone against Spurs during his career. In fact, one performance against Tottenham left the FA apologising for a tweet which lauded his display up against Harry Kane.
, both Tottenham and Manchester United received an apology after the FA Cup semi-final in April 2018.
The FA’s social media team had posted a tweet with a caption asking what was in Smalling’s pocket following the game. And they attached a video – from a previous interview – in which the defender simply says ‘Harry Kane’.
United had won 2-1. Unsurprisingly, that particular tweet was deleted.
It would be a surprise if Kane or Smalling remember the incident. Of course, that was more than four years ago. And much has changed since then.
The pair had played together 12 times for England, with the most recent appearance coming in that amazing 2-2 draw between England and Scotland at Hampden Park back in 2017.
Perhaps they may get the chance to add to that tally in the future.
