Tottenham still interested in signing midfield ‘leader’ after Archie Gray and have advantage over Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur are now setting their sights on their next signing of this summer’s transfer window after getting off the mark this week.

Although Tottenham may have secured the loan signing of Timo Werner for the upcoming campaign, Archie Gray marked their first permanent signing of the summer.

Ange Postecoglou has had his eye on making additions to his midfield after a turbulent 2023/24 season in that area.

The likes of Yves Bissouma started the season off in fine form but really struggled to keep his high standards over the course of the campaign.

And this could see them continue their pursuit of one midfielder who they now hold an advantage over with interest coming from another Premier League side.

Tottenham now hold advantage in race for Premier League midfielder

Changes to the midfield at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were inevitable with Spurs allowing Tanguy Ndombele to leave and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also expected to depart.

Hojbjerg has already been linked with a potential move to Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Not only do numbers need to be replaced, but Postecoglou will feel the strength in depth needs to be improved with a season in the Europa League to contend with.

That has seen Conor Gallagher emerge as a potential target for the Lilywhites as his future in west London remains uncertain.

According to , Gallagher is now believed not to be keen on a potential move to the Midlands with Aston Villa.

Spurs are said to remain interested in the Chelsea man as his contract debacle at Stamford Bridge continues to rumble on.

Gallagher is now into the final 12 months of his deal with the Blues and there is yet to be any indication of a new offer landing his way.

What Mauricio Pochettino said about Conor Gallagher

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino had the opportunity to work with Gallagher last season during his single term at the helm of the Blues.

Pochettino hailed Gallagher as ““, but he is not the only former Chelsea man to have hailed Gallagher over recent months.

“He’s always been working hard,” Petr Cech said on Sky Sports.

“He’s one of the players that’s always cared about winning and about the club. “You find that even young players can have special abilities to be a leader. Conor is one of those players – he’s always worked hard, he’s always cared and he always tries his best.”

Gallagher remains in Germany with the England squad for this summer’s Euros, upon his return it will be interesting to see whether Spurs ramp up their efforts to sign him.
