Tottenham still considering signing ‘extraordinary’ defender who has really impressed Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a signing who could further help their efforts to balance the homegrown quota in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Right now, Tottenham are pushing to sign Dominic Solanke according to reports, a striker who could prove the perfect fit for Postecoglou.

Solanke is excellent in the press, and isn’t too shabby on the scoring front either.

With his 19 Premier League goals, the Englishman outscored all of Son Heung-min (17), Richarlison (11) and Dejan Kulusevski (eight) last season.

It’s clear why Spurs want to add an attacker, but there’s a similar need to reinforce defensively too.

Although Archie Gray can act as cover for Pedro Porro on the right, Tottenham are still incredibly light at the back, and Destiny Udoige doesn’t have sufficient backup.

That being said, TBR Football understands that Tottenham still retain an interest in signing Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters, who left the club in 2020.

Walker-Peters enjoyed an excellent season for the Saints in the Championship last term and the defender’s homegrown status is of huge appeal to Spurs.

TBR recently shared that Tottenham had agreed to sell Emerson Royal to AC Milan, and that move is now edging closer.

As a result, Spurs want further back up for Porro and have done their work assessing Walker-Peters, who impressed Harry Kane in the past.

Fortunately, Southampton are ready to do business, and the ‘extraordinary’ full-back has barely been involved in pre-season as the side anticipate his exit.

That being said, there are also two other names who have been discussed by Tottenham’s hierarchy in recent weeks.

20-year-old Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode is of interest, who could follow a similar path to Udogie should he join from the Serie A.

And otherwise, Tottenham have been considering a move for Manchester City defender Issa Kabore, who spent last season on loan at Luton Town.

It’s clear that Spurs’ squad is light on numbers right now, and Postecoglou’s starting eleven hasn’t seen sufficient improvement either.

However, Tottenham seem like they will step up their business very imminently.

That being said, Solanke’s past comments about Arsenal are now interesting to read as he nears a move to Spurs.
